Guitar Chords for Beginning Guitar Students

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Guitar chords are the quickest way to get a melodic sound on your guitar. Basic guitar chords also form the base upon which you can build as you move on to more advanced guitar techniques. This brief tutorial will introduce you to a few of the simplest and most common guitar chords. This lesson is placed under this category: easy electric guitar lesson .

The first chord to nail down is the D major chord. The first and second fingers are to be placed within the second fret. Finger number one is placed on the third guitar string while finger #2 should be positioned on the 1st string. The third finger should be positioned within the third fret on the second to last string on the guitar. For the D chord  you only play the last four strings on the guitar.

The next chord to learn is the E chord. The E chord is an ideal chord for beginner electric guitar lessons because it is so easy. Finger number one is placed on fret number one on the 3rd string. Finger #2 and #3 are put on the second fret. Your 2nd finger is placed on on the fifth string while the 3rd finger will be on the fourth string from the bottom.  To play the E chord on the guitar you strum all the strings.

The last basic guitar chord to learn is the A chord. The A chord is another one of the easiest guitar chords to learn to play. The A chord can be played using various fingerings but this is the simplest method. THe first three fingers are all put on the second fret. The first finger goes to the fourth string, the 2nd finger is positioned on the third string and the third finger rests on the second string. To play the A major guitar chord. you play all the strings except the top one.

After mastering each of the basic guitar chords cleanly, practice changing chords. You need to be able to do this by keeping a proper beat.  If you can’t make the chord changequick enough to keep on beat, you need to play slower until you can. Once you are able to rapidly change from D to A to E and back then you may begin to increase the tempo.

Learning these simple chords may seem very basic, but they are foundational to your guitar future. You can even play many songs with only these 3 basic electric guitar chords. Don’t try to learn anything new until you have learned these chords well and can shift between them smoothly and effortlessly. This writes the fingerings into your mind so that you can strum these guitar chords without thinking (like typing or riding a bike ).

Be regular, purposeful and consistent in your practice and before you know it you will be making music on your electric guitar.

The first thing that you need to understand is what tablature actually is and why it is important. Through the paragraphs of this article, you will learn how to read the tabs that you want to and where to find tabs if you are looking for them.

The first thing that you are going to need to do is to learn what guitar tabs are before you can appreciate how they can benefit an artist attempting to learn new songs. This is basically a breakdown of various notes and chords that an artist or band plays for a particular composition. No matter what instrument is played, including drums, piano, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, there are tabs to help the particular musician play the piece.

You are going to have to look at tabs in two distinctly different ways to understand them entirely. You first have to understand how the numbers used in a typical tab relate to the fingers of your chord making hand. For instance, when you see the number one, this will indicate the use of your index finger. Likewise, a number 2 will be your middle finger, 3 for your ring finger and the 4 for your pinkie.

Next, you are going to have to look at where this number is placed. It will be on one of the strings (E, A, D, g, b, e) and on a specified fret. If no fret is listed, it would likely be to suggest that this is within the first three frets where the bulk of chords are played.

There are tabs all over the internet. Hundreds of sites dedicated to giving you listings for thousands of bands and artists. Not only this, but most bands release books of tablature based on either their greatest hits or from album to album. So depending on what you are looking for, you can either find a page on the internet dedicated to the song or album, or a book that can give you several of the artists songs all at once.

You have to get started with learning how to read guitar tab books and websites, though. Once you have read this article you will hopefully be better equipped to do just that.

A Kick Start Guide On Guitar Improvisation

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

If you have been to a concert, you most likely are very much aware of what it means when one mentions the phrase guitar improvisation. Improvised music is the technique of capturing what one is feeling by permitting your inner sentiment to speak through the instrument. It is the most creative, communicative and a showcase of precision, skills, techniques and creativity that leaves the audience in awe.

One of the most important technique you should learn is the improvisation techniques and being able to identify the different parts of the guitar. Essentially there are two techniques in guitar improvisation, this are, vertical and horizontal techniques. Horizontal technique is whereby you play a solo based on your current scale while in vertical technique, you are required to play a solo on your current chord.

To begin with you should first get familiar with the different scales, this technique does not involve playing unsystematic notes hoping to create a good resonance, and in this case you should refer to specific scales which are termed as the framework of the piece of music. You find that there are particular scales which you should choose from, but as a novice you should first begin with pentatonic scales. Once you have identified the type of scale to use and the type of chord sequence, then you can obtain the best out of the practice.

The practicing scales helps in building you muscle memory and guide your fingers in the right direction. The other technique you should learn is the Arpeggios. These are basically series of notes which are used to structure a chord. Though unlike a chord, they are not played continuously but rather one after the other in a sequence. These notes are significant and require less effort to memorize them.

Once you familiarize yourself with the scales, you should move to the next step and use a jam track to experiment your scales. In this case you should listen carefully at the sound of the notes over the track little by little experimenting other methods of playing the notes, use your ears to identify what note gives the right sound. The best kind of music to help you kick start this is blues soloing. The reason behind this is because he 12 bar blues progression are very consistent and are easy to memorize. This technique can help you learn how to anticipate chord changes.

In addition, there are a few wrong notes in blues, therefore when you play a wrong note you would probably not cause a lot of harm. The other important step is structuring some decent licks. To accomplish this you should make some licks using a piece of paper and memorize them.

Guitar improvisation techniques require dedication, time, patience and lots of practice. Most of all it requires one to be very keen in listening.
